A re-imagined tale about an ugly duck who isn’t a duck at all. This musical offers adorable music with an array of sassy characters that kids’ will love!
Recommended for grade schools.
Gather round for a musical rendition of Hans Christian Andersen’s most familiar and treasured fairy tale about a little duck that actually isn’t a duck at all. In this refreshed fable, what springs from a large egg in Mama Duck’s nest is none other than Pugly the Platypus. Of course, there’s not a creature in sight able to figure out what this duckbilled, web-footed, flat-tailed critter is or where he belongs. Sad and lonely, Pugly wonders if he’ll ever find a place to call home. But when a little duckling swims out too far on the pond and a courageous rescue is required, Pugly is just right for the job. He dives into the pond and, much to everyone’s relief, effortlessly saves the baby duck! Our hero may not have been transformed into a lovely swan, but his evolution from a maligned misfit to a cherished member of the barnyard society is a heartwarming twist to an oft-told tale. To help spin this yarn is an enchanting score composed by the talented Kristen Nelson, which includes songs like “Spring has Sprung,” “We’ve Got the Skinny,” and “A Place to Call Home.” Pugly will capture your heart as he brings home the message that it’s okay to be different.
