This musical retelling of the 1812 Grimm’s fairy tale is full of playful humor and engaging songs that kids will relish.

Recommended for middle schools.

Once upon a time, there was a young girl named Tilda who lived with her sisters deep in the forest in the kingdom of Galiared. Tilda loved nothing more than to daydream while spinning her wool. Enter an odd little elfin by the name of… wait for it… Rumpelstiltskin. Spotting the lovely Tilda, he began to hatch a plan to make her his wife. So when he ran into the royal hunting party, he informed Queen Beatrice that there was a young girl who lived in the forest who could spin straw into gold. Needless to say, the gold-bedazzled Queen was eager to get her hands on some. Tilda was hauled into the castle and commanded to do the impossible task of spinning straw into gold. In desperation, she accepted the aid of a strange little man with magical abilities, but in return, must marry him. The only way out of this predicament was for Tilda to guess the tongue-twisting name of the little imp. The centerpiece of this lighthearted and inventive tale is the fabulous score by Armando Perez.
