Book by Rachel Nelson, Score by James Russell
Based on the Hans Christian Andersen tale, Stone Soup, this musical adaptation will delight your cast and charm your audiences.
Recommended for grade schools.
For those with an appetite for top-notch entertainment, this classic folktale is guaranteed to give you a belly full of laughs as it demonstrates the satisfaction of collaboration and mutual generosity. A band of hungry soldiers, denied food by some suspicious villagers, publicly declare that they can create soup from stones. They just need an onion, and perhaps a carrot, and maybe a rutabaga to make it taste first-rate. As pantries are pilfered and root cellars ransacked, everyone in the village provides something. In the end, the soup is proclaimed scrumptious, and more importantly, this little hamlet discovers the true magic behind the recipe: sharing. You’ll want to hum along with engaging tunes like “Trouble’s Afoot,” “A New Hat,” and “We Soldiers at Your Door.” Soup’s on so pull up a chair because this show promises to be musically delicious!

“I am the Musical Director of a children’s theater company in NYC, and we recently produced “Stone Soup.” I appreciate how the music is simple and easy to learn for young performers but is still very entertaining and fun! The melodies are catchy, and the lyrics are clever. The students love the songs!”
